Using the GPS Feature

  • Updated

The GPS feature in the RV LIFE App provides quick point-to-point navigation tailored specifically for your RV. This ensures that your routes are safe and suitable for your RV's dimensions, avoiding low clearances, weight limits, and propane restrictions.

To use the GPS feature, tap on “GPS” on the navigation bar at the bottom of your screen.

Note: Ensure you have Location Services turned on in order to use the GPS feature.

Choosing Your RV and Route Preferences

On the top of the RV Safe GPS screen, you will see two key options: “Your RV” and “Route Preferences”

Selecting Your RV

  • Access Your RV: On the RV Safe GPS screen, tap on "Your RV".
  • Choose Your RV: A bottom sheet will appear with a list of your saved RVs. Select the RV you will use for the trip to ensure the route is tailored to its specific dimensions and weight.

Setting Route Preferences

  • Access Route Preferences: On the RV Safe GPS screen, tap on “Route Preferences”.
  • Adjust Preferences: A bottom screen will appear, allowing you to toggle various route preferences:
  • Avoid Tolls: Toggle this option to avoid toll roads on your route. This can help you save on toll fees.
  • Avoid Highways: Toggle this option to avoid highways. This is useful if you prefer scenic routes or want to avoid high-speed traffic.
  • Avoid Ferries: Toggle this option to avoid routes that include ferry crossings. This is helpful if you want to avoid additional costs or potential delays.
  • Avoid Tunnels: Toggle this option to avoid tunnels. This is particularly important for RVs carrying propane or other hazardous materials.
  • Avoid Unpaved Roads: Toggle this option to avoid unpaved roads. This ensures a smoother and safer journey, especially for larger RVs.
Note: Many parks have unpaved (gravel) openings. Turning Avoid Unpaved Roads on might avoid those park entrances.

Once you close the bottom screen, your changes will be automatically saved.

Adding Stops

You can customize your trip by adding stops along the way. To add a stop:

  • Tap on the Add a Stop button.
  • This will bring up the same screen as above, allowing you to search for and select additional stops.
  • You can add as many stops as you want by repeating this process.

Navigating with RV Safe GPS

Once you have added your destination and other stops, you can begin navigation by tapping the red “Start Navigation” button.

NOTE: Using a VPN while navigating could cause routing errors. Routes cannot be calculated without accurate location services and VPNs can interfere with this.

Once you tap Start Navigation, you will be shown a message asking you to verify the information that we have provided. Since road conditions can change unexpectedly, we would like you to be informed. Tap Agree to continue navigation.

  • Route Preferences: Set your routing preferences to avoid tolls, highways, ferries, tunnels and unpaved roads.
  • Turn-by-Turn Directions: Select this option to view detailed navigation for every turn. Tapping this map icon.jpeg button next to the directions will show you that turn on the map
