Export to Calendar

  • Updated

RV LIFE Trip Wizard grants users the added benefit of exporting trips to their calendars to avoid overlapping events and scheduling mishaps. Calendars can be exported toiCal(Mac), your iPhone/iPad, Google Calendar and Android(also via Google Calendar).

Calendars do not always update automatically or quickly. Should you make adjustments to your itinerary once you've added a trip to your calendar, you'll have to delete the existing trip calendar and re-export the revised itinerary.

Before exporting, make sure you have pop-ups enabled.

To begin exporting your calendar, start by clicking the wrench icon at the top of the Trip Drawer and selecting Export Trip.

This is the wrench icon- wrench icon.png

The following menu will appear, then select Calendar Export:

Finally, you will see these options:

From here you can export your calendar one of two ways.

You can either copy the website URL from the red Copy Link button OR you can download the calendar file manually and import it into your preferred calendar yourself.

Smart Tip: Choosing the URL method ensures your calendar updates automatically should you make any changes to your trip in RV LIFE Trip Wizard. Importing the file manually requires you to delete any outdated itineraries in your calendar manually. From there you will have to repeat the process over again. Keep in mind, however, that the URL method sometimes takes days to update, so don’t rely on it if you need updated information fast.

Exporting Your Trip Calendar to iCal on your Mac

a. The URL method

Begin by clicking the red Copy Link button we saw earlier.

Next, open iCal on your Mac desktop or laptop. Select New Calendar Subscription from the File menu.

b. The Download File Method

If you wish to download the file manually and import it yourself, simply click the red Download .ICS File button from the Calendar Export menu.

Another popup will appear to confirm the download (please be aware that you may have to disable any popup blockers for it to show on your screen). If your preferences are set up to allow automatic downloading, the popup may not appear. The file will begin downloading.

Make sure "Open with Calendar File Handler" is selected and click OK. Your trip calendar file will immediately begin downloading to your computer and finish by opening with the iCal application. The filename will be the name you gave your trip along with the file extension .ics (in this case RVLIFETripWizardExample.ics). Keep in mind your computer settings will determine where the downloaded file is located on your hard drive.

Once iCal has opened the following popup will appear:

Choose whether you'd like your trip to appear in an existing calendar, or create a new one. If you choose to create a New Calendar, iCal will use the name of your trip (in this case, RVLIFETripWizardExample) as the name of your new calendar.
